Hadrian's Wall Interpretation Framework
The Hadrian's Wall Interpretation Framework sets out guidelines to inform audience development and interpretation across the whole of the Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site. The findings and recommendations are research led, basesd on extensive audience research. The objective is to enable the many different organisations with an interest in Hadrian's Wall, from local authorities and regional and national agencies to community groups and private landowners, to develop approaches to interpreting the WHS and its landscape in a coherent, complementary and differentiated way that will enhance and deepen visitor understanding for a wide range of audiences.
The Interpretation Framework advocates a thematic approach based on best practice principles for interpretation and audience engagement. The primary objective is to develop a world-class, differentiated, complementary and cohesive visitor offer across the whole WHS by encouraging adoption of the highest quality interpretation designed to meet audience needs. This in turn will improve connectivity between sites, encourage multi-site visiting, increase dwell-time and improve ticket sales and income generation for sites, businesses and communities.
